CAMEL 15th at Age Group Championships

At this weekend’s Age Group State Championship, CAMEL continued its recent upward trend from 117 points (31st) in 2006 to 376 points (25th) last March on to 689 points this season, sailing past 41 teams to place 15th of the 56 CT teams.  This is the best result for the team since it was founded in Fall 2003.  Tina Hughes was high point winner for the 15/19 girls with 105 points.  Alivia Berg scored 48 points, Brian Hughes 47, Asia White and Adelaide Taylor each scored 46.  Seth Adams, Rhianna Blake and Eva Nelson also qualified for finals scoring for CAMEL.  The 13/14 girls’ relays (Berg, Taylor, Blake, Nelson and Rachel Kriet) scored in all five relay events and took two first places.  The 15/18 boys (Adams, Tyler Tremblay, Jay Lockaby and Dan Nohara) also placed in all 5 relays.  Grace Moriarty, Dana Tricarico, Andy Janz, Lillian James, Sabrina Brown and Lea Janz swam well for CAMEL.  Full USA results, CAMEL results and Scoring are available on the “Meets” page. 

2007-2008 Tuition Announced - Registration Underway

The CAMEL Board of Directors has announced the 2007-2008 Tuition schedule.  The tuition schedule is similar to last year’s.  The $200 discount has been split into a $50 discount for short course tuition that is paid in full by August 15 and $150 discount for LC tuitions that are paid in full by January 15.  As always, all tuition payments are nonrefundable.  In addition to the multi-level USA age group competitive swim team, Camel Swim Club offers a broad range of competitive swimming experiences for athletes of all ages and abilities including pre-team lessons, private instruction, clinics and both a Masters group and a Pre-Masters aquatic fitness group.  Camel focuses on creating an environment that molds individuals into champions, in competition and in life, by focusing on the growth of the whole swimmer and empowering each athlete with self-discipline and self-esteem.  The club admits athletes with disabilities and admits members without regard to race, color, religion, ability to pay, national origin or ethnic origin.  Camel Swim Club is a non-profit corporation and is a group member of both Connecticut Swimming and USA Swimming.  CAMEL’s primary practice facility is Lott Natatorium at Connecticut College in New London, CT.  More information including registration materials can be accessed on the “Join Us” page of this website or by contacting Coach Ann.

CAMEL Sailing Into Age Groups

CAMEL anticipates sailing into its best ever Age Group Championship following an amazingly succsessul opening of championship season this past weekend.  At Regional Championships, CAMEL swimmers posted almost 100% lifetime personal best times with a number of Regional Champions and eleven new Age Group Championship qualifying swims:  Congrats to Seth Adams (50, 100 & 200 Free), Alivia Berg (200IM), Rhianna Blake (200 Back),  Brian Hughes (100 Breast, 200 IM), Rachel Kriet (100 Free), Jay Lockaby (100 Back), Grace Moriarty (50 Free), and Eva Nelson (400 IM).  Meanwhile, down in Maryland,  Tina Hughes qualifed for finals and set new CAMEL records in both the 100 Fly (1:06.06 in the prelims and 1:05.89 at finals) and the 200 Fly (2:28.33 in prelims and 2:25.81 at finals).  Also swimming well for CAMEL were: Sabrina Brown, Jessica Charron, Jesse Gardner, Lillian James, Andrew Janz, Lea Janz, Jordan Estabrooks, Steph Lawton, Dan Nohara, Taylor Strelevitz, Adelaide Taylor, Tyler Tremblay and Dana Tricarico

Hughes Finals Again Day 3 of Sectionals

Tina Hughes’ 2:28.33 in the 200 Fly was a new all-time CAMEL record, qualified her for finals and moved her up from 41st seed to 22nd place going into tonight’s Super Sectional  finals in Somerset Hall at St. Mary’s College.  (CAMEL Sectional Results through event #17).  Back in Connecticut, Regional Champions Seth Adams and Brian Hughes posted additional Age group qualifying times as did Rhianna Blake and Grace Moriarty.

CAMELS Amazing at Sectionals Day 2 & Regionals Day 1

CAMELS swam 100% new lifetime best times on Friday which included a new Age Group State Championship qualifying swim and a new team record!  At Sectionals in Maryland, Tina Hughes moved up four places in the morning preliminary heats to qualify for finals and, at this evening’s finals, moved up another four places, setting a new team record in the 100 Fly with a 1:05.89.  At Regionals, Eva Nelson improved her 400 IM time by an amazing 15 seconds qualifying her for Age Group State Championships.  The 400’s were also fast events for Jay Lockaby and Steph Lawton who improved by 10 seconds each and for Tyler Tremblay and Seth Adams who each improved over 6 seconds

Hughes Finals at Day 2 of Sectional Championships

A new team goal will be achieved as the first CAMEL to ever qualify for finals at Sectionals swims this evening.  Tina Hughes will compete in tonight’s 100 Fly at Somerset Hall in Maryland.  Fly has been a fantastic event for all the CAMEL ladies this season with Asia White, Grace Moriarty, Adelaide Taylor and Steph Novotny all achieving numerous lifetime best times and also qualifying for Age Group State Championships in the fly events.

Two Weeks of Championships Open on a High Note

For the first time since its inception in 2003, CAMEL was represented at the Sectional level.  CAMEL seniors Tina Hughes and Adelaide Taylor both swam in day one of the 2007 Super Sectional being held in Maryland this week.  Tina and Adelaide both swam on thier times narrowly missing finals.  With lots of best times at Senior Championships earlier this month and a great start to Sectionals, CAMEL anticiaptes the best championship season ever.  Representing CAMEL at Regionals later this weekend will be Juniors: Sabrina Brown, Jessica Charron, Jesse Gardner, Lillian James, Andrew Janz, Lea Janz and Grace Moriarty; and Seniors: Seth Adams, Rhianna Blake, Jordan Estabrooks, Brian Hughes, Rachel Kriet, Steph Lawton, Bryan Levine, Jay Lockaby, Eva Nelson, Dan Nohara, Taylor Strelevitz,  Tyler Tremblay and Dana Tricarico.  CAMEL also has twenty swimmers qualifed for Age Group championships who will compete next week at Weleyan.

Upcoming CAMEL Socials

The CAMEL social committee has been busy this summer.  CAMELS have been enjoying Thursday morning bagel breakfasts and recently had some fun in the sun at Misquamicut Beach (pictured left: Stephanie Lawton trying on a baby beach bonnet - additional photos are available by clicking on the ”CAMEL Pictures” link to the right).   CAMEL swimmers were treated to some Hawiian fun at this weekend’s meet, too.  CAMEL families interested in helping with the upcoming Regional Pasta Dinner (Thrusday July 19), Movie Day (Tuesday, July 24)  and/or the end of season picnic (Saturday, August 4th), please contact Jessy White Langley or Coach Ann

CAMEL accepting Registration for Fall/Winter Short Course

This past week, CAMEL welcomed Appoline Jonckheere (pictured left) to the Bactrian group and Meika Freeman to the August College & High School Pre-season Camp bringing the Long Course Roster to 93 and the Camp Roster to 23.  CAMEL has ongoing registration for the current season (ending August 12 for Juniors and August 24 for Seniors).  CAMEL is also accepting registration for the upcoming Fall & Winter Shourt Course Season.  Swimmers registering by July 23 will register based on the 2006-2007 tuition rates (including the $200 discount for full year registration).  Swimmers registering after July 23 will register at the slightly higher 2007-2008 Tuition.  For further information contact Coach Ann.

CAMEL Masters adds Aquatic Fitness Group

CAMEL Masters (lap swimming with meet opportunities available) has expanded to offer a general aquatic fitness group.   Water aerobics is offered Monday, Wednesday and Thursday mornings form 9:00 - 9:45 with an optional lap swim before from 8:40 - 9:40AM and after from 9:45 - 10:00.  CAMEL Masters and CAMEL Fitness Masters may lap swim any time there is a CAMEL practice or lesson group scheduled.  Private swim instruction is also available.  Contact Coach Ann for more information.  CAMEL Masters welcomed two new members this week, Ken Berg and Katey Kokomoor.

CAMEL Membership Growing Daily

Membership in CAMEL is ongoing throughout each season.  This week, CAMEL welcomed Rachel Kent (college junior) to our Vicuna squad and Alivia and Jessica Berg to the Guanaco group.  These new athletes bring CAMEL’s 07 Longcourse Roster to 91, exceeding the membership goal by 90%.  CAMEL is offering swimmers the opportunity to participate for only $11 per week for the next four weeks (plus $55 USA membership fee if not enrolling in an other CAMEL program during 2007).  All three athletes are also participating in the August College & High School Camp, bringing the Camp Roster to 21.  Enrollment will be limited for the camp and it is filling rapidly.  Additional information is available on the “Camp” page or by contacting Coach Ann.

Taylor and Hughes Final Day 4 of Senior Championships

Adelaide Taylor (100 Breast) and Tina Hughes (100 Fly) are both seeded 9th going into tonight’s final.  Adelaide Taylor’s 100 Breaststroke time of 1:18.81 leaves her well placed to acheive a Sectional qualifying time tonight.  Adelaide’s time is a new 13/14 All-time CAMEL Record and a new CAMEL Open Record, too.   Tina will be representing CAMEL at Sectionals in the 100 Fly, 200 Fly, 50 Free and 100 Free.   All CAMEL swimmers are welcome and encouraged to cheer their teammates on for tonight’s final races.

400 Free Relays new All-Time CAMEL Records

Stephanie Lawton led off the first 400 Free Relay of the evening with another new personal best time which was rapidly followed by numerous other CAMELS acheiveing lifetime best times to set new CAMEL marks in both the Women’s and Men’s 400 Free Relays; the women smashing the old mark by 14 seconds and the Men by over 8 seconds!  CAMELS cheered as Tina Hughes marched out with the other finalists for the 200 Fly.  Hughes also qualified in the 400 IM with a new personal best and team record in the morning prelims and then returned to drop an additional 6 seconds (5:26.04), moving up 6 places in this evenings finals.   Seth Adams (100 Back and 100 Free) and Dan Nohara (100 free) also both swam well.  With one day left in the meet, CAMEL now has 67 points and is in 11th place for the women and 18th overall in the meet.  (There are 56 teams in CT).   Meanwhile at the WAC meet, Asia White, Sarah Burstein, David Burstein and Brian Hughes all had almost 100% best times in the first of two days at YALE!

ALOHA CAMELS

The annual Kamana Wanna Swim Invitational on July 14 & 15 has a Hawaiian theme.  Special awards will be given to the swimmers whose attire best represents the theme.  There will also be an award given to the team that has the best decorated tent.  Show your Camel spirit by getting creative and have some fun as CAMEL participates in the theme of this meet.  Anyone who has Hawaiian theme related decorations and/or clothes to share should contact Mary Moriarty at 536-7472.

Taylor and Hughes Final Day 2 of Senior Championships

Adelaide Taylor’s time of 2:54.69 set a new 13/14 All-time CAMEL Reocrd and a new CAMEL Open Record in the 200 Breast and placed 16th.  Tina Hughes also qualified for finals in the 50 Free placing 21st.   The 200 Free Relay team of Dana Tricarico, Adelaide Taylor, Steph Novotny and Tina Hughes placed 14th and set a new CAMEL Record as did the 200 Medley Relay of Rhianna Blake, Adleadie Taylor, Tina Hughes and Dana Triacarico.  The Women’s “B” relays which placed 19th & 20th and the Men’s relays which placed 21st & 20th also swam well with Tyler Tremblay’s lead off 50 another new CAMEL All-time Record.    Dana Tricarico, Tyler Tremblay and Dan Nohara competed in the 50, Adelaide Taylor and Steph Novotny in the 200 IM and Tina Hughes and Kelsea Fortner in the 400 Free.
