CAMEL 9 & Unders shine at Westport Yard Meet

CAMEL’s 9 and Under squad was well represented at Westport’s Yard Meet Thursday evening.  Asia White took first place and set new All-time CAMEL records in all three of her events.  David Burstein was named swimmer of the meet as he cheered the relay of Ana Kirkpatrick, Asia, Kara Kirkpatrick and Sarah Burstein on to success.  It was another day of fun and fast swimming as Westport gave heat winners light up bag trinkets and CAMEL’s coaches had glider planes for CAMELS acheiving lifetime best times.

CAMEL’s August College & HS Camp filling up

CAMEL is once again offeing a camp for college & high school athletes preparing for their scholastic seasons.  The camp runs for three weeks, August 6 through August 24, Monday thorugh Friday mornings 7:00 - 9:30 AM.  The first week will be a blend of storke technique, start, turn & finish work, and endurance building.  The final two weeks will primarily focus on endurance building.  CAMEL is pleased to announce that Coach Dan Mascolo is returning to coach CAMEL’s 2007 CAMP.  Coach Mascolo has coached numerous USA National Top 16 swimmers and YMCA National National Qualifiers. He has been the Head Coach for Holyoke YMCA and the Hockamuck YMCA, both in Massuchusettes, and currently coaches for the Cheshire YMCA Sea Dog Swim Team.  Coach Mascolo’s coaching experience includes Bernal’s Gator National Team Camp in Irvine California and coaching Connecticut Swimming’s Distance Camps.  A 1996 graduate of Conard High School in West Hartford, Dan went on to earn a BA degree in Communication Sciences at the University of Rhode Island. While at URI, he was named to the Atlantic-10 Commissioner Honor Roll and was a swim team record holder. Dan has been a member of the NE Swimming Board of Directors as Coaches Representative, was appointed a NE zone coach and was also appointed to USA Swimming’s Waterworks Committee. Coach Mascolo is an ASCA Level 3 Certified Coach and a member of CSI’s Age Group Committee.  To ensure an excellent swimmer to coach ratio, CAMEL is limiting the size of the camp; with 17 already on the camp roster, the camp is anticipated to fill soon.   For more information, clcik on the ”Camp” tab above or contact Coach Ann

CAMEL Continues to Grow

CAMEL is growing daily. CAMEL now offers Pre-team lessons, a developmental program (Dromedaries), an age group USA team (Bactrians and Alpacas) a senior USA team (Llamas and Guanacos), a college USA group (Vicunas) and a US Masters program.  In association with the current Masters group, CAMEL is offering both adult lessons and an introductory aquatic fitness group.  In the last week, CAMEL has welcomed 19 new swimmers to the team.   Ege Izmirili has joined CAMEL’s Bactrian Group.    Aburuf Ahmed, Elise Frechette and Yonatan Hirshberg have joined CAMEL’s Dromedary group.  Maddie Bennett, Josh Goldstein, Rachel Goldstein, Elson Guo, Nitzan Hirshberg, Jessica O’Connor, Emily O’Connor, and Dakota Willimas have joined the Level Two Pre-team group and Katie Bennett, Nathan Brown, Kamal Kalkhoran, Erin McNeish, Summer Nebelski, Lian Wolman and Kelly Yang have joined the Level One Pre-team group.  Contact Coach Ann for information or to register for any of CAMEL’s programs.

 

Second CAMEL swimmer qualifies for the 2007 Zone Championship

Asia White swam the 50 Meter Freestyle in 33.79 seconds, making her the second swimmer from CAMEL to qualify for the 2007 Zone Championship to be held this August in Buffalo. Two of Asia’s times were new team records as were two of Brian Hughes’ and Tina Hughes’ times for a total of six new All-Time CAMEL Records. The three were joined by Jessica Charron, Eva Nelson and Andy Janz in setting twenty-two new 07 Season Records. In addition to Asia’s zone qualifying time, Tina swam three Senior Championship qualifying times and Asia, Tina, Brian, and Andy were joined by Grace Moriarty in achieveing a total of 18 Age Group Championship qualifying times. Karley McNeish was named Junior Swimmer of the Meet and Carolyn Romano was named Senior Swimmer of the Meet. Together Karley and Carolyn contributed 15 new lifetime best times to CAMEL’s total of 52 new lifetime personal best times. Also swimming well representing CAMEL were: Sabrina Brown, Lillian James, Lea Janz, Rachel Kriet, Steph Lawton and Jocelyn Rogers. CAMEL Results and Full USA Results are posted on the “Meets” page. CAMEL’s New Programming Attracting New Members

Dakota Williams, pictured left, is the newest member of CAMEL, bringing the spring/summer long course roster to 63 and still growing. Dakota, age 10, has been a guest of our Dromedaries and has now joined our Pre-team Lesson Group. Enrollment is still open for CAMEL’s morning pre-team group which meets 9:40 to 10:20AM and CAMEL’s evening pre-team group which meets 5:20 to 6:20PM. There are thirty-two 40 minute classes scheduled with certified USA coaches as the instructors. Registration is $188 and includes a 2007 USA membership. Both the morning and the evening pre-team programs are offered weekdays, June 18 through August 3. CAMEL has also opened registration for the College & High School Pre-season Camp and the College Summer Program. The camp has been expanded to a third week, allowing the first week to have an emphasis on starts, turns and stroke technique in addition to endurance building. The 15 session camp is scheduled for weekdays August 6 through August 24. Contact Coach Ann for more information about any of these programs.
